FIVE Non-Basic Beginner Houseplants
We may have a minor houseplant problem…and I totally understand if you don’t want to have an entire jungle of your own. But I also hate to see people who look at an unfamiliar plant and automatically assume it’s too complicated to grow easily! So in this post I’m sharing 5 non-basic beginner houseplants that anyone can grow!
Peperomia
The first plant I’d suggest is any variety of peperomia. They grow long fun-looking stamen, they’re easy to grow, and come in several different colors & sizes.
Aglaonema
My next suggestion is an aglaonema. They’re easy to find, come in a lot of different colors, and don’t require a lot of light so if you have limited light these are still an option! They will also fill the pot you put them in but are ok in small pots which means you won’t end up with an out of control massive plant.
Orchids
Orchids are next on the list. These are obviously super common but I’ve found that people tend to give up on them long before they have a chance to rebloom, essentially turning them into a long-lived bouquet. If you find the right spot in your home and trim the stalks, these can rebloom over and over again!
Euphorbia
My favorite houseplant family is the euphorbia! This is a hugely diverse family of plants but they tend to be easy to grow, love sunny spots that would burn most houseplants, and give an unusual desert vibe to your houseplant collection.
Dwarf fiddle leaf fig
Last but not least - a ficus has to make this list! Specifically in this video I share my dwarf fiddle leaf fig because it’s a really manageable size and it’s affordable and easy to find.
What plant on this list surprised you the most? Is there an unusual beginner-friendly houseplant you think I should have included? And most importantly - which one are you going to grow next??
